Which band do I need?
Fitstream bands are available in 5 different resistance levels. Your choice of band will depend on your fitness level and how you intend to use it but shown below are some general guidelines for band selection.
| Band | Guides for band use |
|---|---|
| Mini Resistance Band (purple, 5-35 lbs Resistance) Super-Mini Resistance Band (red 10-50 lbs resistance) |
These bands are best for general training and fitness, rehabilitation, stretching, jumping, speed training, aerobics and great for adding resistance to weight training exercises. A good choice for relatively light weight lifters or beginners who want to add intensity to their workouts without adding additional weight. Advanced lifters can use these bands to add considerable resistance to bicep and triceps exercises. |
| Small Resistance Band (blue 25-80 lbs resistance) Medium Resistance Band (green 50-120 lbs resistance) |
The small and medium fitness bands are excellent for stronger bench pressers and exercises involving the lower body, calves, quads, hamstrings and glutes. |
| Large Resistance Band (black 60-150 lbs resistance) |
The large band is used by very strong, heavy weights. It adds serious resistance to squats, deadlifts, leg presses and shrugs and can also be used for explosive pulls and resisted stationary running.

How can I use resistance bands?
Resistance bands, strength bands, fitness bands – whatever you know them as, these bands have been gaining in popularity for their low cost and extremely flexible way they can be integrated into all forms of your training.

Once favoured for powerlifting and weightlifting to add increasing tension throughout lifts to develop explosive power, speed and strength these bands are now finding their way into all manner of training:
The bands are also the perfect accessory for assisted pull-ups, dips and muscle-ups and to help you on your way to achieving advanced bodyweight exercises assistance-free such as front and back levers, the iron cross and planches.
The video below demonstrates how resistance bands can be used when dipping, to make the exercise easier (for those that aren't quite strong enough yet, or those that want an extra few reps out the set) and also how to make the dip harder (for those who've out grown their own bodyweight and looking for that extra intensity to the exercise).
The Fitstream Resistance Bands are also suitable for use with gymnastics rings for adding intensity or assisting with ring training exercises.

Having received this last week I was pleased with the quality, especially as it was cheaper than other brands of resistance bands (of which there seems to be very few companies selling in the UK). Have already started using it with some of my athletes, this level of resistance is particularly useful when correcting squat technique where the knees buckle in (a sign the glutes aren't firing enough), just double up and loop just above the knee and use in warm-up sets. Will be ordering more levels of resistance for my other exercises.
